The US Solar Energy Industry grew by 67% in the year ending 2010 according to a report issued by the Solar Energy Industies Association a solar energy trade association.
Some sunny highlights from the report:
- Total Market Value Grew from $3.6 billion in 2009 to $6.0 billion in 2010.
- 878 megawatts of photovoltaic capacity an 76 megawatts of concentrating power were installed in the US in 2010: enough to power 200,000 homes.
- 65,000 plus homes and businesses added solar water heating or solar pool heating systems.
- Top ten states in photovoltaic installation were California (27%), New Jersey(14%), Florida (12%), Nevada (6%) and Arizona 6%.
- Sixteen states installed more han 10 megawatts of photovoltaic capacity in 2010, compared to four states in 2007.
- Solar Water Heating Installations increased from 31,647 in 2009 to 33,462 in 2010.
- Solar Electric Installations are now at a cumulative of 2.6 gigawatts.
- US Manufactuiring of photovoltaic components was up 97% for wafers, 81% for cells and 62% for modules.
