Tierra Energy, LLC, an Austin, Texas concern, is developing a 30 MW windpower facility on land owned by the City of Cheyenne, Wyoming. The facility, consisting of 14 wind turbines, wil produce energy that will be sold to the local utility, Cheyene Light Fuel & Power, and power several thousand homes. According to the Casper Star Tribune, "...The Cheyenne area boasts one of the steadiest and strongest supplies of wind in the nation, according to the National Weather Service. The average annual wind speed is 13-14 mph, and 16-17 mph in the winter..." At least one local resident (and probably more) are welcoming the facility,
"...Cheyenne resident Mike Starks said he's in favor of the wind farm. He might even be willing to pay more for wind energy if it reduces dependence on foreign oil.
“Anything that we can get for alternative energy is good,” Starks said."
This opinion is certainly great to hear from someone from an area where one might intuit that people are not strong proponents of clean renewable energy. Using renewable energy has a national security issue for many citizens, a groundswell that is gaining momentum.
